Check your current usage
Already have a website? Check how much space your files, databases and mailboxes use in your hosting control panel. Record these separately. A website with a few service pages has different needs from a shop with hundreds of product images. For a new website, list the pages, images and files you intend to publish. Ask your web developer for an estimate if they are building it for you.
Look beyond website files
Email can take up a substantial share of your storage. Quotations, photographs of completed work and large attachments all add up. Check whether mailboxes share the plan’s storage and which individual mailbox limits apply. Retain important business correspondence intentionally and in line with your own retention policy. Deleting messages just to fit a smaller plan is not sensible if you still need them.
Prepare images for the web
Photographs show your work, but an original camera image is often larger than a web page needs. Use appropriate dimensions and compression. Keep originals separately if you may edit them later. This saves storage and reduces the amount of data visitors need to download. Check that product details and examples of your work remain clear enough.
Allow for growth and other limits
Plan for additional pages, staff and mailboxes. Storage is not the only consideration: the number of websites, databases, mailboxes and control panel features also matter. A plan with plenty of storage is not automatically right for every busy online shop. Discuss your expected usage and ask how moving to a larger plan would work.
