Using maintenance mode in WordPress

You can temporarily show visitors a maintenance page during work. A separate testing environment is often the best preparation for design and function changes.

Choose the right environment

If possible, work first in a development environment. Visitors can then continue to use the existing website while checking changes.

Show a clear notification

For planned maintenance, use an appropriate provision of your theme, plugin or hosting. Please briefly tell visitors that the website is temporarily unavailable and provide a contact route if necessary.

Keep access for control

Check which visitors see the maintenance page and how to test yourself. Make sure that management access and necessary functions remain accessible.

Check the livegang

Turn off the maintenance mode after the last check and empty relevant caches. Test the website as a regular visitor, including mobile, forms and important links.
