An afternoon of building becomes an ongoing task
Choose a template, add a logo and generate a few paragraphs: getting started looks easy. Then come the details. Does the menu fit on a phone? Are the services and images accurate? Does the form work, and does the enquiry actually arrive? Before long, several evenings have gone into the website. Your time is the biggest hidden cost. While you try to align a heading, quotes, customers and other work wait. A low monthly subscription tells you little about what the website really costs your business.
An attractive website does not automatically win customers
A website should help visitors become customers. It needs to explain what you offer, who you help and why someone should contact you. A template or generic AI copy does not automatically understand your customers. Phrases such as “quality and personal service” could describe almost any business. They say little about your actual approach. Without specific information, relevant examples and a clear path to an enquiry, even a polished website may achieve very little. Someone still has to plan that content and structure.
Building your own website also means working on SEO
Publishing a website does not mean customers will immediately find it. Search engine optimisation requires pages that answer real searches, clear titles, useful content and a logical structure. You also need to check whether search engines can index the pages and which searches bring visitors. Wix provides SEO tools, so good search visibility is possible. However, a checklist does not choose your services, automatically produce distinctive information or decide which improvements matter most to your business. Without that attention, your website can be online while barely reaching the right audience.
AI writes quickly, but checking the facts is still your job
AI can produce a useful first draft. It can also invent facts, add services you do not offer or make promises you cannot keep. Review every text, including search titles and descriptions. Google emphasises accuracy, relevance and added value. Using AI does not automatically harm rankings. The drawback comes when you publish unchecked, generic text and expect it to attract customers on its own. Your knowledge of the business remains essential. Editing and verification do not disappear at the click of a button.
Technical management continues after launch
Who deals with a booking integration that stops working, a form that no longer delivers messages or a mobile layout broken by a change? Wix handles hosting and much platform maintenance. You still need to review your own settings, accounts, content and integrations. If you ask AI to generate standalone code or an entire custom application, updates, security, hosting and recovery may also become your responsibility. It depends on the solution. A generated website is therefore no proof that everything is secure and maintainable. Without clear support arrangements, you are the person who has to investigate problems.
A subscription may not cover the full cost
Check what you need for your domain name, business email, forms, bookings and other features. Some options require a particular subscription, an extra app or a separate service. Add your own working hours to the comparison. Consider future flexibility too. A Wix website runs on Wix infrastructure and cannot simply be moved as a complete working website to any other hosting provider. Your domain or individual data may have different transfer options. Moving to another system may require rebuilding the site. A quick start can become another project later.
Your customer calls while you are fixing the menu
Imagine you run an installation business and want visitors to request a quote easily. You spend the evening on colours and images, while the service information remains unclear and the enquiry form has not been tested. The website looks better, but its route to a new customer still falls short. The same applies to a salon, shop or practice. Doing everything yourself means becoming a copywriter, designer, tester and website manager alongside running your business. You do not need to learn every one of those skills to present your business professionally online.
Have your website built and focus on your business
At Drechthosting, we first discuss your business, customers and requirements. We then prepare a proposal for a website with suitable content, structure and hosting. We build with WordPress and other systems, depending on your plans. Our quote separates the one-time website build, recurring hosting and optional maintenance. We also agree which SEO and management tasks are included and which are not. Nobody can guarantee first place on Google. You can, however, agree who checks the website and who to contact when you need help.
